I am a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) in Vocal Music and an ISTE Certified Educator, currently pursuing my doctorate with a focus on Race-Based Traumatic Stress (RBTS) informed curriculum. I teach at a 9-12 Chicago Public School, where I am developing my own piano curriculum that integrates student-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive practices.
What to talk to me about:
Trauma-informed and RBTS-informed music education
Culturally responsive teaching in urban schools
Blues, gospel, and African American music traditions
Curriculum design for secondary vocal and piano programs
Technology integration in music education (ISTE standards)
Flexible classroom environments
Strategies for empowering student voice and identity through music
The intersection of music, social justice, and healing
I am passionate about using music as a tool for healing, empowerment, and community-building—especially for students navigating complex cultural and personal challenges. If you’re interested in innovative approaches to music teaching, trauma-informed practice, or building inclusive music programs, I’d love to connect!
