SY26 SKYLINE PROFESSIONAL LEARNING

Teacher Professional Learning. Teachers are provided with comprehensive support when launching the Skyline curriculum through asynchronous and in-person sessions, as well as ongoing offerings to sustain and deepen successful implementation.
  • Skyline Essentials Badges: Asynchronous self-paced professional learning essential for those who are implementing and/or supporting the implementation of Skyline. Badges can be found here. Teachers earn 1 ISBE credit hour for each completed badge. As of April 1, 2025, compensation is not available for badge completion.  
  • Skyline 101s: In-person, day-long sessions that prepare teachers and leaders for successful implementation of Skyline. Sessions will run June 16, 2025 through the summer.
  • Ongoing Support: Throughout the school year, CPS content specialists provide ongoing professional learning opportunities tailored to both newly implementing teachers and more experienced users of the curriculum.

School Leader and Network Leader Professional Learning. School leaders and network leaders have access to professional learning that helps them apply high-leverage leadership practices that are especially impactful for implementation of HQ curriculum. 

  • Leading Implementation of the Skyline Curriculum: This in-person, day-long launch session is for school leaders, school-based coaches, and network/district coaches who support schools with curriculum implementation. Leaders will leave the session prepared to implement high-leverage leadership and coaching practices that matter most for successful curriculum implementation. Sessions will run May 27, 2025 through the summer.

  • Ongoing Support: Throughout the school year, the CPS professional learning team provides ongoing opportunities for school and network leaders to strengthen their leadership of Skyline curriculum implementation.

Payment / ISBE Credit Hours

  • Teachers will receive ISBE Hours for each Skyline Essentials badge completed. As of April 1, 2025, no compensation will be provided for completion of Skyline Essentials badges. Teachers will receive ISBE Hours for attending PL sessions. Eligibile staff will also be compensated at the non-instructional rate per hour for their attendance at Skyline PL sessions that occur outside of regularly contracted hours. Teachers must be fully contracted and onboarded at the time of the session, attend the full duration of the session, and complete the attendance/exit slip form to receive payment and ISBE Hours. Health-Related Fitness in PE - A Physical Best Workshop
Friday June 5, 2026 9:00am - 11:30am CDT
Please join the Health and Physical Education team as we host physical education experts, SHAPE America Trainer and curriculum lead at Denver Public Schools,Jennifer Smith. In this interactive, half-day workshop, participants will discover how to make fitness in physical education meaningful, inclusive and engaging for all students. The workshop highlights updated PE standards, hands-on activities and best practices for assessment, connecting fitness concepts to lifelong health. Activities for this workshop will align with Physical Best, Fifth Edition.

Through hands-on activities and discussion, participants will:
-Trace the progression of fitness learning from PreK through high school, identifying age-appropriate instructional touchpoints;
-Describe developmentally appropriate fitness concepts (HRCF, SRCF, FITT) and discuss how these progress through each grade span;
-Engage in elementary-level and/or secondary-level fitness activities and analyze how a variety of strategies support both skill and concept development;
-Evaluate current assessment practices in fitness education and justify strategies that are inclusive, sensitive and supportive of all student abilities and body types;
-Walk away with ready-to-implement activities and assessment strategies, as well as a clear vision for how fitness education can connect students to health and wellness for life.

HPE-K-12-SY26 Ready, Set, Plan! HPE Summer Planning Session
Friday June 5, 2026 11:00am - 12:00pm CDT
This session is designed to give Health and Physical Education (HPE) teachers dedicated, structured time to prepare to reflect on the past school year and use those insights to begin prepping for the next school year to ensure a smooth start. In this session led by the HPE team and the teachers from our district leadership team. In this session you will work to set clear goals and create a plan to utilize the summer break to strategically improve your HPE program.
Walk away from this session with a clear roadmap, essential resources, and the knowledge needed to launch the new school year focused and ready on day one.

Goal Setting in PE - A Physical Best Workshop

Please join the Health and Physical Education team as we host physical education experts, SHAPE America Trainer and curriculum lead at Denver Public Schools, Jennifer Smith. In this interactive workshop, participants will explore practical ways to teach students how to set, monitor and reflect on personal fitness and activity goals. The workshop emphasizes student ownership, motivation and growth-minded assessment practices that help learners connect daily participation to lifelong health. Activities will align with Physical Best, Fifth Edition.

Through hands-on activities and discussion, participants will:
-Explain the role of goal setting and self-reflection in building student motivation and confidence in physical education;
-Practice developmentally appropriate strategies for helping students create specific, measurable and meaningful fitness and activity goals;
-Experience elementary- and secondary-level activities that embed goal tracking, self-assessment and progress monitoring;
-Design feedback routines that support student agency while honoring diverse abilities, interests and starting points;
-Leave with ready-to-use tools for goal-setting collaboration, student reflection and family communication to support active lifestyles beyond the gym.
